A Cosmic Journey was the premiere show in the new digital Gates Planetarium. Opening in June 2003 the popular solar system tour has grossed over $1.6 million in ticket sales in Denver. This highly original show features 23 minutes of uninterrupted flight through the solar system, with close passes by the planets, moons and the sun. The scientifically accurate images were created by manually flying through the Museum's Cosmic Atlas database. This free-flight camera motion gives the audience a unique sense of flying through space and visiting the planets. The Museum's SGI supercomputer was utilized to preview and render all of the scenes. We are currently producing an updated version of the show which will feature brief stops at Titan, Pluto and Europa. |
